Classic Rock Tours: Self-Guided Worldwide Field Trips

Have you ever found yourself travelling somewhere in Canada, or around the world, and become aware that you are surrounded by interesting and informative geology, spectacular scenery, or a combination of the two - but with no real clue as to what you are seeing? This series of papers will assist you in exploring places that you travel to, and might even guide your planning. Your non-geologist companions will never suspect that the strange coincidence of destinations and classic field trips is not as random as it seems.

These papers will highlight classic geological field trips that you can enjoy at your own pace, and select the bits that interest you most. They are not intended as detailed scientific accounts of the problems in specific areas, although they will give you enough backround to understand the context. They will help you find classic outcrops and controversial relationships, and understand scenic vistas in a different way. These accounts will also have great educational value, and can be used in designing recreational and instructional excursions. If you have a favourite area that you believe everyone should know about, consider submitting an article. Share the wonders of your favourite routes with readers, or make the guidebooks from previous field trips part of the wider geological literature.
